Invitation to the Islands in the Future conference in St Vincent and the Grenadines
Dear Students,
We are thrilled to invite you to participate in the upcoming Conference Islands in the Future hosted by the David Graeber Institute (DGI) in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. This event will not only be a gathering of minds but also an opportunity to directly participate in projects building communities resilient to climate change.
This conference is inspired by the ideals of interdisciplinary collaboration and building a world of care and freedom. At DGI, we believe in connecting art, technology, social sciences, and culture to create sustainable solutions that benefit both our community and the world.
As a conference participant, you will have the opportunity to engage theory in practice in several exciting projects, including:
Help us construct flexible, playful spaces for the children of St. Vincent and the Grenadines using salvaged and recycled materials that can withstand hurricanes.
Documenting and Reflecting: Learn about the cultural significance of Carnival to the people of Saint Vincent by helping us document this rich local tradition, as well as contributing to its exuberance through art exhibitions and other creative activities.
Spirulina: Join a hands-on project where you will help create and optimize a spirulina 3D printer for local use. We hope to organise the source for sustainable food resources using cutting-edge technology. We will also work in local prisons, facilitating communication and engagement with the inmates.
This conference is more than just an arena for discussion – it will offer a chance to work alongside the local community, celebrate diverse perspectives, and foster authentic solidarity. We invite you to join us in Saint Vincent and become part of a movement that combines education, culture, and action to make real change.
