Spirulina Brainstorming Session / The Survival Kit Collection

Event date: May 10 / 2025

We’ve just completed our first spirulina workshop in Saint Vincent, and we’d love to continue this work—not only by creating practical farms or supporting home-scale production across the Caribbean, but also by launching a broader campaign to explain why spirulina matters.

Our goal is to shift spirulina from the elite health food market into something accessible for everyday use.

We have a few ideas on how we might do that. One is to position spirulina as an alternative to the massive—and often harmful—diet pill industry. We could promote it as a food that supports healthy weight management. This is, in fact, true: spirulina is an extremely affordable and nutritious source of sustenance. In contrast, many people spend huge amounts on diet pills, only to return to fast food and repeat the cycle—an exhausting, costly, and inequality-driven loop.

To develop this further, we’d love to invite artists, anthropologists, and researchers to a brainstorming session. We’re planning to meet on Zoom, Saturday, May 10.
