Tim Ingold on sharing time

Published on: November 8 / 2025

We are very happy to have had the opportunity to host Tim Ingold at the DGI. His work is vital for our projects, including the Visual Assembly. Tim writes a great deal about how knowledge is transmitted not only through informational and hierarchical structures, but also through many other forms — including visual, artistic, and embodied ways of knowing. Because of this, he places anthropology at the center of all possible education. This is essential for our Institute. After his lecture, we also had a fascinating discussion about what education is and how the crisis of contemporary education might be addressed. Tim also shared an excellent manifesto written by him and others at the University of Aberdeen to reclaim the academic world and reshape it in a more communal sense. We are excited to draw upon the reflections and work of Tim and others as we reflect on what makes a university in a ‘possible world’.
