Spirulina Farm at Saint Vincent Prison and more: December 2025.
As a practical project follow up of the Brain Trust initiative, together with local friends, is launching a pilot spirulina farm inside Saint Vincent’s prison. The project combines technology, art, and food justice: training staff to cultivate spirulina and involving prison cooks to create healthy local products. At the same time, artists will develop an avant-garde style visual campaign to challenge postcolonial dependence on imported foods.
Why did we choose the prison instead of setting up an NGO or partnering with a private farm? Unfortunately, none of those options work here. So let’s try the prison!
We chose the prison because we wanted a place not driven by profit, with permanent free space and access to water and sunlight — both essential for spirulina. It is also a community that may be interested in a long-term, primarily educational project aimed at teaching new skills that could later be applied in a broader social context.
Before our trip in December, we will hold several informational events to prepare thoroughly, so please stay tuned for updates.
